UPS Delivers................. at least, I think that is one of their slogans. I saw an article about UPS drivers using "alternate" forms of transportation - - and here in our RV Resort they do indeed have a different delivery system:

it saves having the big, brown truck running around the park - probably makes it easier for the driver as well. They deliver the packages to a container trailer in a parking lot near the front of the Resort and then load up the smaller trailer for in park delivery - - - really a cool, Yule idea

November to remember

Well - it has been a November - finally all of the political ads are over - - now if only the 'newsies' would stop harping on every negative thing - we're here in Florida, surrounded by friends and we keep looking down at the grass and not up at the roots !!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all

hmmm - it has been a good bit of time since I posted to this site - and now the title seems a bit 'off' or maybe not. After Summer is over we dust off the motor home and begin our journey southward to our Florida home. This year we journeyed through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and finally down into Florida (yes all you map buffs - we did pass through Alabama on I-10 but we didn't stop). When we travel in the MoHo, I don't usually plan to travel more than 200 miles in a day ( on the road AFTER rush hour and in a campsite well before evening rush !!)

We took factory tours of the John Deere Tractor plant and the Winnebago Motor Home plant (our Itasca MH is a Winne product). Both of these were in Iowa.

Oh yes - the little black Miata is our "Toad" - that is the car we tow behind our motorhome - quite a size difference going from one vehicle to the other !!!!!!!!!!!! :)

We also visitied a fantastic 'living' museum in Mt. Pleasant - the Old Thresher Museum - it had many old steam powered tractors and pieces of equipment - it also had some great displays of early farm life - it was definitely worth a visit - plan two or more hours for this one.

St. Louis - we did the arch, saw the fountain, went to a shrine ... had a good time. Saw where Lewis and Clark started out from on their quest...............

Hannibal, Missouri - - Mark Twain - we took one day for the town and the next morning for a visit to the two caves - both located on or at the Mark Twain Campground.

must remember

the marvelous thing about the friends that I have is that most are as silly as I am - rants, introspections, non-sense mental wanderings.....simply great.

Dennis and Debby - on safari - now Debby is tracking an elusive, mirror spider..................

But I must remember that among my friends I have two that are special - they are the photographers - so this blog is a promise to them that I will endeavor to make sure that I capture their digital images for them. Ian - I did pretty good on the golf course and the Safari Tour but I will continue to work at it. For my friend, Z, who takes so many pictures of our motorcycle trips - I apologize - we have not captured you very often - and you are even more photogenic than Ian.....

for Daphne and Steven - you let Ian get away with eating Jaffa cakes and sipping tea whilst you worked the locks and narrow boat !! I have it on good authority that he can and did do that sort of thing in Florida!! Although, I am not sure what he was doing in this picture....

Here he is dusting off his hands after actually getting off of our conveyance and closing and securing the gate !!!!

Florida sure is flat !!! and we are in Highlands County !!!

Blog is running so is the car

Well, the weather here in Pennsylvania has finally decided to become more like Spring/Summer instead of the kind of weather I go to Florida to avoid !! Mary and I rode the motorcycle to the local (well 30 miles away) Casino. I played a round of GOLF - first time out since May 5th. But best of all I finally got THE CAR out - - only had it out twice last summer so I was rusty, the car had some issues but we still managed to win our class and come in second fastest for the day. Next time out I'll have some new tires since it looked like I was trying that sport of 'drifting' at every corner.

Trying to stay close to the cones ... each one I hit adds 2 seconds to my run time ...... BAD !!

The car is a Formula 500 - an introductory class, restricted to a 500cc motor from a Ski Doo snowmobile (no modifications allowed). It uses a snowmobile centrifugal clutch system - that is free to development (my car uses an engine clutch from a Polaris sled and a driven clutch from an Arctic Cat). The engine puts out around 90hp and the car weighs in at about 800 pounds (with driver). It will top out at around 115mph but the race track versions will see around 140 - mine is set up to accelerate more than for top end. It is a 2 stroke motor with oil induction - runs great on high test.

I participate in 'time trials' and 'auto-crosses' - - - it is really great fun since the smallest car carries one of the largest drivers !!! and I am usually one of the fastest cars there !!! The car is only 11 feet long and 55' wide so I can store it in a shed in my back yard - not sure what my adult neighbors think about me but the kids think we are great - between the motor home, the motorcycle, the Miata and the race car - - - TOYS, TOYS, TOYS !!!!!!!!!!
